LEARN! Research Seminar Committee Introduction

Every last Tuesday of the month, LEARN! hosts a speaker to provide a talk of broad interest to the LEARN! community. The goal of these seminars is to connect perspectives and to bring together colleagues from several disciplines, to facilitate exchange of ideas and spark new collaborations.

We are happy to announce that we have established LEARN!’s first Seminar Committee to organize these seminars, who will introduce themselves below.

They are still looking for input to schedule the remainder of the 2024 seminars. You can voice your preferences by filling in this form.

Dear colleagues, my name is TuongVan Vu (I also go by Van, for short), I'm an assistant professor in the Section of Clinical Developmental Psychology in the Department of Clinical, Neuro- and Developmental Psychology and have been a member of LEARN! ever since I joined the department. Many of my works are in the field of educational psychology. LEARN! seminars the past few years have been a good source of inspiration as they have been giving me the opportunities to really learn about the works of the colleagues within the institute and their collaborators such as the "Reimagining Education: Key Findings and Recommendations from the ISEEA report" in March 2023. LEARN! Seminars have also introduced me to exciting new research that I would otherwise not be aware of, for example the "Automated coding of Strange Situation Procedures" one in December 2023. By joining the committee, I hope to be able to build on this strong tradition of the LEARN! Seminars to organise future seminars that are representative of the broad research interests of all LEARN! programs. The next goal would be helping to modify and alternate the format of the seminars in order to further facilitate the exchange of ideas within LEARN! I look forward to reaching these goals with other committee members and all LEARN! members.

Hi colleagues, my name is Annelies Brocken! I am a postdoc in the section of learning sciences in the department of educational Sciences. I did my PhD at the department of movement sciences at the VU; since December 2022 I am working as a postdoc on research about the effects of a schoolyard movement intervention on the development of children. A perfect way to combine both my studies in human movement sciences and child development and education! I visit the LEARN! seminars to hear about the work of colleagues and to learn about (new) research which can be potentially interesting for myself (such as the presentation of Debby ten Hove about “Estimating Interrater Reliability from Planned-Missing Data”). Joining the committee is a nice way to extend my own network and I hope to be able to organize seminars that are representative of the broad research interests of all LEARN! Programs.  I look forward to seeing you all at the seminars and of course at the drinks afterwards!

Dear colleagues, My name is Helene Vos, I'm an assistant professor of Educational Sciences and I joined LEARN! in June last year. My research focuses on the cognitive and socio-emotional factors contributing to academic achievement. Being a member of the research seminar committee is a great opportunity for me to collaborate with researchers from several disciplines as LEARN! has a strong record of organizing seminars across a wide variety of research topics. As a member of the committee, my goal is to organize seminars which introduce colleagues to various research topics and which contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations.
