Filip Van Droogenbroeck is assistant professor in the Data Analytics Lab at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He obtained his PhD in Sociology with a dissertation on the end of career and mental health of teachers. His main research interests include sociology of youth, sociology of education, educational policy, compassion and altruism research. Filip has extensive experience in the design, data-collection, analysis, and valorisation of large scale quantitative research; He coordinated projects such as the 'Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS 2018 Flanders)' and the 'Holocaust Police and Human rights project'. He published over 20 papers in peer reviewed academic journals, contributed to 12 books, and wrote over 12 policy-oriented reports.
Keynote Speech Abstract:
It is widely believed among teachers, educational researchers, and policy makers, that teachers have a higher risk of developing mental health problems compared to other professions. Similarly it is perceived as common sense that substantial differences exist between schools in the mental health problems of teachers. In this lecture, we look at the rationale behind such claims and the available empirical evidence.
